Movie Pick: Azur and Azmar

Intricate Islamic patterns cover surfaces in Michel Ocelot’s fairy tale in northern Africa

This animated film by the director of “Kirikou and the Sorceress” is so beautiful and entertaining, you don’t need to be a kid to enjoy it. Azur and Azmar are two boys on a magical quest that leads to racial tolerance and understanding. The woman who raises the boys is voiced by one of my favorite actresses, Hiam Abbass (Oscar-worthy in “The Visitor”) who also cast the film.
