'Rachel' Film and Soundtrack Marry Well

Jonathan Demme’s Rachel Getting Married, one of the best films in theaters right now, has a characteristically strong soundtrack. Demme has an eclectic musical taste, and his filmography is ripe with expansive sounds and songs. Like Cameron Crowe or Quentin Tarantino, Demme cares less about finding potential hit singles and more about finding the best songs to fit his films. For the whirlwind mood of his latest film, much of the score is comprised of artists performing live while the cameras rolled. It’s an aspect of the film that not everyone loves, but if you jump onboard with it, you’ll only enjoy the film even more.
