I was reading this report about how New York City bars and clubs are dropping the ball for New Year’s Eve, with only 39 of them applying by the deadline to legally remain open until 8 a.m. that night. Last year, the number was more like 400, and six of this year’s applicants have already been denied. My first instinct was, “bummer,” but then I thought about it… 33 is better than none at all. I mean, I had no idea staying open until 8 a.m. was something people expected, but I guess I have a lot to learn. Honestly, if I’m still looking for open bars when the sun is coming up and it’s freezing cold outside, put me out of my misery.
