At the Obama campaign “mega call center” at the Bowery Hotel on Sunday afternoon, folks sat on chairs, at tables or on top of cushions on the floor dialing voters in a final Get Out The Vote push that will continue through Election Day. I sat for a few hours at a makeshift table calling registered Democrats in Florida, providing them with their exact polling location and offering rides to those who need help getting to their voting location. An older woman had been given an incorrect polling place, while a younger woman I chatted with desperately needed a way to and from the voting site. Others said they were on track to vote and I even reached one group as he and his family were standing in line for hours on Sunday to vote early for Barack Obama.
It was a busy Sunday for campaigning. Friends were in IN, OH, NY, PA, NC, VA yesterday as the final weekend wrapped. A group in Bucks County, PA went door-to-door for Obama and even met Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell (and actress Morgan Fairchild) on the trail.
New Yorkers who can spare an hour to make calls on Monday or on Election Day, feel free to drop by the Bowery Hotel (335 Bowery at 3rd). Follow the Obama signs upstairs to check-in and make some calls. All you need is a cell phone. Or to volunteer at another event, visit the Obama website.
