Danny Boyle‘s “Slumdog Millionaire” was high atop the iW BOT box office chart, which was published this afternoon. More on the film’s performance box office column, which was published last night. The top opener’s were Hunter Hill and Perry Moore‘s “Lake City,” which grossed $9,355 on a single screen, and Tom Gustafson‘s “Were The World Mine” which grossed $19,192 from 3 screens for a $6,397 average. “We could not be more thrilled,” Gustafson told indieWIRE. “It’s the exact reason we tried desperately to get distributors and even press into screenings with audiences instead of watching screeners. None of them realize what they missed out on because they never experienced it properly. We are very proud that our weekend numbers exceeded the performance of most of the films released by those distributors that rejected us.” [Peter Knegt]
