In its third deal of the week, Samuel Goldwyn Films is planning at least a 500 screen theatrical release in February ’09 for William Dear‘s “Free Style” from Rigel Entertainment. Ahead of the movie’s American Film Market premiere tomorrow, Goldwyn and Fox Home Entertainment scored U.S. theatrical and home video rights to the film. Described as “an uplifting story about a young man and his determination to win a coveted spot on the Grand National motocross racing team,” the movie stars Corbin Bleu, Penelope Ann Miller, Madison Pettis and Sandra Echeverria. It was written by Jeffrey Nicholson and Joshua Leibner, produced in assocation with Up North Entertainment and Canal Street Films and features music from Nickelback, The Jonas Brothers and “High School Musical” star Corbin Bleu.” Fox has secured Latin American rights, launching it in Mexico this Christmas. Yesterday, Goldwyn confirmed deals for Tim Disney‘s “American Violet” and Michael Keaton‘s “The Merry Gentleman.” The company is currently releasing Isabel Coixet‘s “Elegy” and Alex Kendrick‘s “Fireproof.” [Eugene Hernandez]
