A&E IndieFilms Appoints Thompson as VP

A&E Network has appointed Molly Thompson to the position of Vice President, A&E IndieFilms, the network’s feature documentary arm. Thompson will be located in the New York office and report to Robert Sharenow, Senior Vice President of Nonfiction & Alternative Programming, A&E and BIO. “Molly’s ability to foster filmmaker’s creative visions and nurture relationships with theatrical partners has enabled A&E IndieFilms to bring to life some of the most authentic and dramatic documentaries of the past few years,” said Sharenow in a statement. “A&E IndieFilms has developed some of the most buzz-worthy and critically-acclaimed films under her leadership and with her continued expertise I am positive the brand will continue to thrive.”

In her role, Thompson will be responsible for overseeing the branding and festival strategy for A&E IndieFilms and lead negotiations in contracts to finance films and in distribution deals. Additionally, she will be charged with developing documentary projects for AETN’s portfolio of networks.

Thompson’s newest project is the anticipated 2009 Sundance Film Festival entry “The September Issue.” Thompson is also currently working on a Pat Tillman documentary for A&E IndieFilms from Director Amir Bar Lev.
