Ahead of Sundance, FilmNation Scores GreeneStreet Int'l, Aligns With A Bigger Boat

Heading into Sundance with a goal of acquiring films to sell and distribute internationally, Glen Basner’s Film Nation announced a major deal with GreeneStreet Films tonight. In a sales industry shakeup, FilmNation has acquired GreenStreet’s sales unit, GreeneStreet Films International (GSFI). GreeneStreet SVP for international sales Amy Beecroft is joing Basner at FilmNation and the company will take on sales for A Bigger Boat, the film and tv outfit recently formed by Peter Block and GreeneStreet. It will also be the exclusive international sales agent for all GreeneStreet movies.

“Since the production capabilities of our company are growing through A Bigger Boat’s upcoming films, this is a perfect opportunity to segue our longstanding international sales business into the very capable hands of FilmNation,” GreeneStreet’s John Penotti and Tim Williams said tonight, in a statement. “Glen is that rare film sales executive who understands both the challenges of melding the creative intentions and the business goals of the independent film world. GreeneStreet and A Bigger Boat are thrilled to be a part his new and talented team at FilmNation, and look forward to a productive partnership on our growing slate.”

A veteran of The Weinstein Company (where he served as president of international) and Focus Features (where he was EVP of international sales and distribution), Basner recently launched a production arm at the company with Aaron Ryder (from Newmarket and Raygun).

The first projects on the FilmNation slate are Adam Green’s “Frozen” from A Bigger Boat, as well as the “Untitled Peter Farrelly/Charlie Wessler Comedy” and Matt Reeves’ “The Invisible Women.” A Bigger Boat has a domestic distribution relationship with Overture Films and Alliance Films.

“We are really excited to be in business with GreeneStreet and A Bigger Boat and to have the opportunity to bring their quality films to international audiences,” Glen Basner said in a statement. “Amy is a talented executive with an established track record in the international sales business and we are thrilled that she is joining our team.”
