Creating a Filmmaker Fan Page on Facebook

Creating a Filmmaker Fan Page on Facebook

I just created a Fan Page on Facebook and thought I’d share some tips to other filmmakers who want to do the same.

Our Facebook Fan Page:

Probably the biggest confusion I had at first was determining the difference between GROUPS and FAN PAGES on Facebook and which was best for me.

If you want to highlight your work (whether that be film, art, music, etc.) and also let friends and fans join to stay up to date on your screenings, then FAN PAGE is for you.

GROUPS is not for this purpose. GROUPS is for people to stay in touch with each other, like a High School graduating class or a Book Group, and not to specifically promote or be a fan of a “product.”

So to start your Facebook Fan Page, once you have a facebook profile you simply click here:

http://www.facebook.com/business/?pages

It’s pretty standard and easy to set up, and allows posting of photos, bio information etc., just like a regular Facebook profile page.

The Fan Page also has this great feature called INSIGHTS which offers traffic details for your Fan Page. You can see impressions or even how many people have viewed your videos along with a demographic breakdown of your fans.

One fantastic feature on FACEBOOK is the hosting of VIDEOS. Facebook’s video hosting and compression is quite good and allows up to 1024 megs and up to 20 minutes, which is perfect for most short films or trailers.

You also get embeddable tags so you can take your films elsewhere.

I easily placed one of my short films FACE VALUE right here in this blog. Check it out!
