It’s Sundance #16 for for me, but the last few days I’ve been thinking a lot about year #1. At my apartment in Los Angeles, I packed my bags for my first Sundance on January 20, 1993, as the Clintons danced at an inaugural ball. It was an incredible moment of change and excitement. The fest would alter the course of my life. The people that Tim LaTorre and I met that first year (Rabbi, Bryan Singer, Robert Rodriguez, and many others) were catalysts for ideas we explored with iLINE and then indieWIRE. It was an unanticipated induction into the indie film community and a year later I moved to New York City and became immersed in indie film and multimedia while still at ABC TV…
This year, the iW team will gather in our Sundance condo to watch Barack Obama become president and its an even more exciting and daunting time. Hope mixed with a striking sense of how challenging the next months and years will be for many people.
