Remember 1990s B-movie star Damian Chapa, from cult classics like Under Siege and Blood In Blood Out? Well, he’s still at it, and now he’s directing/producing his own projects. His latest is the Roman Polanski biopic, Polanski Unauthorized. Not really sure why someone sets out to make a low-budget and unauthorized biopic about a legendary filmmaker who is still very much alive. I’m even less sure, after watching the film’s trailer:
Meanwhile, the film is getting an L.A. release this weekend. Todd McCarthy’s Variety review says: “With production values no better than homemade porn — most scenes are played in front of drapes — and dialogue that makes you feel sorry for the actors, this Friday the 13th Los Angeles vanity release isn’t even fun in a bad-movie way. Paying customers will feel gypped.” I think we need to have a screening in New York, stat!
