Five New Albums Worth Your Dime

Five New Albums Worth Your Dime

1. Various Artists, Dark Was The Night
(A stellar double-disc benefit collection, part of the Red + Hot organization, compiled by members of The National. Features just about every cool new band working today, and many of them contribute terrific exclusive new songs.)

2. The Boxer Rebellion, Union
(Soaring and epic London rock group, owing as much to U2 as they do to every band that has tried to duplicate U2. Derivative, to be sure, but a solid batch of pop.)

3. Alela Diane, To Be Still
(Like a Carly Simon spin on latter-day Cat Power, this new singer/songwriter gives an earthy tone to AM pop.)

4. Telefon Tel Aviv, Immolate Yourself
(Ambient explorations from this great duo, which recently lost a member to a sudden death. It serves as a fitting tribute to a specific sonic experiment, and good electronic blips.)

5. Lily Allen, It’s Not Me, It’s You
(The British tabloid fave turns it more serene for her sophomore LP. A bit quieter and more thoughtful than her bombastic debut, but equally as infectious.)
