The Trouble With Lou & Pixar

The Trouble With Lou & Pixar

I’m really happy that The Trouble With Lou became one of the titles we represent at Cinetic Rights Management. This is a film that was one of the first we programmed when I was a staff member at SXSW in 2000. It would play very well at the festival, following its Special Jury Prize at Slamdance 2001. What’s always been really fascinating to me, though, is the fact that some of the team behind this sex comedy went on to make movies for Pixar. Producer Teddy Newton went on to work with Brad Bird on The Incredibles and Ratatouille (as well as the non-Pixar Iron Giant). Lead actor Lou Romano supplied the voice for Linguini, the human star of Ratatouile, as well as voices in Pixar flicks like Cars and The Incredibles. Composer Michael Giacchino (who you may remember as the Music Director for this year’s Oscars) was nominated for an Academy Award for the Ratatouille score, and is penning the score for Pixar’s upcoming Up. All these guys, and one of their first works is Trouble With Lou, a comedy about masturbation in the 1950s. You can rent or buy the film on iTunes right now. Here’s the opening two minutes:
