SXSW The Last (Half) Part 3. The Last.

SXSW The Last (Half) Part 3. The Last.

You don’t have to work for SXSW, to access tons of music. For better or worse, these pictures only represent about 3/4 of the shows I saw over the five days of this event. The last round of photos here, this time from Saturday’s final night at the 2009 SXSW Music Festival:

(Straight outta San Diego, pop/rocker Anya Marina played the Chop Shop/Rockville party on Saturday afternoon at Brush Square Park. Thanks to party host – and Chop Shop label head Alexandra Patsavas – you’ve heard Anya Marina’s songs in some of your favorite TV shows.)

(Opening up annual Japan Nite show at SXSW, Okinawa’s poppy Stereo Pony did a great job at Elysium.)

(Over at Esther’s Follies on 6th Street, Eugene Mirman was one of many comics performing at the very popular stand-up showcase. Over the last couple of years, SXSW has integrated comedy showcases within the music festival.)

(New Orleans hip-hip duo The Knux almost brought down the house at Vice on Saturday…)

(…Good thing they didn’t, because the next act was a stunner. Atlanta-based Janelle Monae capped off a successful SXSW with a great set at the same club. Monae is a protege of Outkast, and sounds like a female Andre 3000, but her guitarist is not Andre despite the similarities.)

(Norwegian rocker Ida Maria was forced to cancel many SXSW performances, reportedly due to customs issues, but she made it in time to shatter the masses at Perez Hilton’s late-night party on Saturday. The lady knows how to bring the catchy rock hooks. You’ve been warned.)

(Yelle, a French pop/rock/dance force to be reckon with, woke up the late-night crowd at the Perez Hilton party.)

(Undoubtedly, the highlight of Saturday’s Perez Hilton party was a surprise appearance by rap superstar Kanye West.)

(West stopped by the Perez Hilton gathering to play half a dozen hits and thank the blogger/host for being honest with his opinions, even when it involved criticizing the artist.)
