Frederic Boyer will succeed Olivier Pere as the head of the Directors Fortnight, the SRF (Societe des Realisateurs de Films) which oversees the sidebar that coincides with the Festival de Cannes. Pere will, who took the helm in 2004 and is leaving this year, was named Artistic Director of the Locarno Film Festival beginning with this year’s edition in August. Boyer has served as a member of the selection committee also since 2004.
Boyer is a founder of Videoshpere, a large video chain in Europe, according to an article in Variety. He spearheaded Scandinavian, Eastern European and Anglophone work for the Fortnight’s roster.
Francis Ford Coppola’s “Tetro” will open this year’s edition of the Director’s Fortnight, with 23 features set for the event’s 41st run. The full list is available at indieWIRE.com. The Directors Fortnight takes place in Cannes May 14 – 24.
