GC Corp, Killer To Produce "Betsy and the Emperor"; Pacino To Star

GC Corporation, the VC fund headed by New York financiers Adi Cohen and Joseph Grinkorn, in association with Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler, have concluded a deal to buy and co-produce “Betsy and The Emperor,” based on a novel by Staton Rabin. John Curran (“The Painted Veil”) is attached to direct and Al Pacino is set to portray Emperor Napoleon. GC Corp. is also in charge of financing for the project.

“Betsy and the Emperor,” is described in a press release as “the compelling and barely told true story of the last chapter in emperor Napoleon’s life, deserted, imprisoned, humiliated and destitute in the island of Saint Helena, and his unique relationship with Betsy Balcombe, a 14 years old British girl who’s father lives on the island where Napoleon is first sequestered.”

GC has acquired all rights to the book by Staton Rabin and all film and stage adaptation rights, held formerly by the Bob Yari Company. As in previous cases in which it purchased film assets, GC will assign the project to Killer Films and it is set to begin shooting late autumn.

GC and Killer have commissioned Brian Edgar to write the screenplay.
