John Cameron Mitchell To Direct Kidman, Eckhart In "Rabbit"

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that “Rabbit Hole” will be director John Cameron Mitchell’s anticipated follow-up to 2006’s “Shortbus.” Cameron Mitchell will direct the film from David Lindsay-Abaire’s script, adapted from his own stage play. Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart will star in the film as a “a happily married couple that is disrupted by an unexpected tragedy and the emotional journey they must undertake to regain happiness.”

The play of the same name won a Pulitzer Prize for drama and a Tony Award for Cynthia Nixon’s performance as Becca, the role that Kidman will assume.

Kidman, who is producing through her Blossom Films banner, had initially set up the project at Fox Searchlight. It is now being co-financed by Olympus Pictures and Odd Lot Entertainment, which will co-produce as well. Per Saari of Blossom, along with Leslie Urdang and Dean Vanech of Olympus and Gigi Pritzker of Odd Lot, are also producing. Bill Lischak and Linda McDonough will serve as executive producers for Odd Lot. The film will likely start shooting at the end of May, and will be sold at the Cannes film market. CAA, which brokered the financing deal, will handle domestic sales, while Odd Lot handle international.
