Movieline “Back With Better Hair”

Movieline "Back With Better Hair"

Movieline, the Hollywood magazine that launched in 1989, was relaunched in online-only form this morning. “It was awesome, and there’s been nothing like it since,” Seth Abramovitch, the new editor of the site, said in a letter to the readers. “And it sure as hell deserves a comeback/sequel/remake more than A Nightmare on Elm Street does.”

Abramovitch, is joined by senior editors Kyle Buchanan and S.T. VanAirsdale. All three of them were editors at the recently closed-down Defamer.com. The relaunch of Movieline comes after the decline of the physical magazine in the early 2000s. The site describes its new self as: “the premier movie and television site with the vitality and immediacy of a Hollywood-centric blog coupled with more expansive pieces on the entertainment world and pop culture.”

The site launched with a wide range of editorial: Highlights of summer ’09 movie trailers that feature explosions; An interview with Emily Blunt; and a review of “State of Play”.

“We’ve expanded our coverage to encompass all aspects of entertainment,” Abramovitch said in the aforementioned letter. “Also, you may have noticed we exist online — you know, that series of tubes that wasn’t around much back when Sean Young ruled the Hills — so expect a steady, up-to-the-minute stream of breaking news, exclusive interviews, reviews, and features. You may also notice some of the magazine’s greatest hits making a return — classic columns like Hollywood Ink, Bad Movies We Love, our signature cheeky lists (yes—Movieline started those), and perhaps even a Guess Who/Don’t Sue blind item now and again. Look for all of these and more in an elegantly bundled online package, free from the billowing hair and pastel-colored fashions of that bygone era.”
