IFC Films Finds Loach’s “Eric”

IFC Films Finds Loach's "Eric"

In a big Cannes pick up, IFC Films has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Ken Loach’s competition film, “Looking for Eric.” IFC Films’ Arianna Bocco, VP of Acquisitions & Co-Production negotiated the deal with Carole Baraton of Wild Bunch. The deal pairs Loach with the American distributor again. IFC Films previously distributed his Palme d’Or winner “The Wind That Shakes The Barley,” which went on to become his highest grossing film in America, and his Venice prize winner “It’s A Free World.”

Eric (Steve Evets) the postman is slipping through his own fingers…His wife has gone, his stepsons are out of control and the house was chaotic even before a cement mixer appeared in the front garden. Life is crazy enough, but it is Eric’s own secret that is driving him to the brink. How can he face up to Lily (Stephanie Bishop), the woman of his dreams that he once loved and walked out on many years ago? Despite the comical efforts and misplaced goodwill of his mates, Eric continues to sink. In desperate times it takes a spliff and a special friend to help a lost postman find his way, so Eric turns to his hero: footballing genius, philosopher and poster boy, Eric Cantona.

“This is an absolute dream come true for all of us at IFC Films,” commented IFC Entertainment president Jonathan Sehring in a statement. “Without trading in any of his usual themes, Ken Loach has made the most accessible, crowd pleasing film of his amazing career. We look forward to getting it out to the widest audience possible through all of our platforms. It’s a true honor to continue our relationship with Ken, Rebecca O’Brien, Pascal Caucheteaux and Vincent Maraval and our good friends at Wild Bunch not to mention the legendary Eric Cantona.”

“Looking for Eric” screened in Cannes on Monday.
