iW Video: Atom Egoyan on Social Media, "Adoration"

EDITOR’S NOTE: This is part of a series of videos running this week of the indieWIRE/Apple Filmmaker’s Talks that took place during the Tribeca Film Festival. All the videos were shot and edited by Tim LaTorre.

“There are no barriers at all… We’re saturated with a type of intimacy that we could never have expected and that comes with an immediacy of response,” said director Atom Egoyan at the Apple Store SoHo last week about about the role of social media in everyday life, a theme which features prominently in his new film, “Adoration.”

“Adoration,” which opens this Friday, May 8, concerns a teenage boy who sets off a firestorm of debate on the internet when he unleashes a potent story about his family history online. You can read Jeff Reichert’s review of the film for indieWIRE here.

“I think that the internet is incredibly liberating,” concluded Egoyan. “It’s an amazing democratic tool that tracks all sorts of fringe groups, creates subcultures…it’s exciting.”
