Silver Bear Winner "Gigante" Heads To U.S.

Film Movement has announced their acquisition of Adrian Biniez’s “Gigante,” the Uruguayan comedy about one shy man’s innocent obsession with a supermarket co-worker. The film won the Grand Jury Prize Silver Bear, the Alfred Bauer prize and the Best Debut Film award at the 2009 Berlinale. Film Movement will open the film in theaters in the fall of 2009.

“Hands down the most charming film in competition at this year’s Berlinale, ‘Gigante’ is yet another example of a burgeoning Uruguayan cinema that keeps surprising us with its unique humor and sensibility,” said Adley Gartenstein of Film Movement in a statement. “We are thrilled to bring this sweet romantic comedy of sorts to North American audiences.”

The acquisition of ‘Gigante’ was negotiated by Film Movement’s President Adley Gartenstein and Brigitte Suarez of The Match Factory.
