deadCENTER Announces Fest Winners

The 2009 deadCENTER Film Festival – held in Oklahoma City – came to a close this weekend, and the festival has announced its annual award winners. All winners receive custom trophies by Oklahoma artist, Utopia Joe, and the winner of Best Narrative Feature receives $2500. The winners in the shorts competitions received an encore screening of their film at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art on Sunday, June 14th. The competition films are judged by a large group of film critics, educators and professionals. The Grand Jury Winners are determined by the combined input of dozens of screeners and juried board members.

This year’s winners are:

Grand Jury Narrative Feature:

Grand Jury Narrative Documentary:

Narrative Feature:

Documentary Feature:

Screenplay:
Laura Looks Up by Keri Schreiner, Los Angeles, CA

Narrative Short:
Gaining Ground directed by Marc Brummen, Germany

Documentary Short:
Forced into ‘Comfort’, Fighting for Apology directed by Theo Lipfert, Bozeman, MT

Animation:
I’m So Proud Of You directed by Don Herzfeld, Santa Barbara, CA

Student Film:
Science Fair directed by Dean Fleischer-Camp, Brooklyn, NY

Oklahoma Feature:
Barking Water directed by Sterlin Harjo, Tulsa, OK

Oklahoma Short:
Starvation Doctrine directed by Zac Davis, OKC, OK
