It’s Céilidh Time

It's Céilidh Time

The Edinburgh International Film Festival celebrated “Homecoming Scotland” this weekend in the form of a Céilidh, a traditional Gaelic social dance. Apparently, before nightclubs, there were céilidhs in most town and village halls on Friday or Saturday nights. The festival’s official “patron” Sean Connery attended the festivities – at the ridiculously gorgeous Assembly Hall in New Town Edinburgh – as did fest juror Frank Langella. My jetlag didn’t exactly put me in the mood for dancing, but I did proceed to do the two things I’ve basically been doing nonstop since I got to Scotland: eat food that’s really, really bad for me and get drunk. My camera died pretty quick into the night, but I still have some weak photographic evidence

And, though you probably can’t tell, Langella and his wife are among those dancing below (he’s the blurred out man in the center of the first one)
