Magnet Moves "The House of the Devil" to U.S.

Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, has acquired U.S. rights to Ti West’s “The House of the Devil,” which had its world premiere this April at the Tribeca Film Festival. Magnet plans to release the film one month before the theatrical release via their Magnolia/Magnet Ultra VOD program. “Devil” will hit theaters around Halloween. Magnolia’s Senior Vice President Tom Quinn negotiated the deal with Josh Braun of Submarine and Roger Kass of RingTheJing Entertainment, on behalf of MPI Media Group, Glass Eye PIX, RingTheJing Entertainment and Constructovision.

“The House of the Devil” follows a cute college girl, Samantha (Jocelin Donahue), into a remote house deep in the forest where she is supposed to babysit. Though there are no kids in the house, there is a creepy couple, the Ulman’s (Tom Noonan and Mary Woronov), who are celebrating the night’s rare lunar eclipse. In honor of this special event, they have something planned for dear Samantha…

“Ti West is without a doubt one of the biggest talents in horror right now,” said Magnet/Magnolia SVP and Head of Acquisitions Tom Quinn. “‘The House of the Devil’ is smart, truly scary, and an awesome throwback to what made 80s horror great. This kind of film is what Magnet is all about.”
