Michael Moore: “Join me in helping our fellow Americans”

Michael Moore: "Join me in helping our fellow Americans"

Expected to have a festival premiere this fall prior to its October 2nd debut in theaters, Michael Moore’s still untitled new film will explore the economic crisis. The filmmaker staged an old-fashioned publicity stunt last night to stir buzz about the new movie.

“Instead of using this time to tell you about my new movie,” he said, in a promo that aired in four cities last night, “I’d like to take a moment and ask you to join me in helping our fellow Americans.” Moments later, people in white shirts brandished donation cans that read, “Save our CEOs.”

“Won’t you please give generously,” he chided, in the brief promo that played at a single theater in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington D.C.

The new movie will explore the causes of the global economic crisis, as indieWIRE reported recently, and take a comical look at the corporate and political shenanigans that culminated in what Moore has described as “the biggest robbery in the history of this country” – the massive transfer of U.S. taxpayer money to private financial institutions.

“The wealthy, at some point, decided they didn’t have enough wealth,” Moore said in a recent statement. “They wanted more–a lot more. So they systematically set about to fleece the American people out of their hard-earned money. Now, why would they do this? That is what I seek to discover in this movie.”

“The movie is not going to be an economics lesson; it’s going to be more like a vampire movie,” Moore told USA Today this week. “Instead of the main characters feasting on the blood of their victims, they feast on the money. And they never seem to get enough of it.” He continued, in the paper, “If you go to see my movies, even if you don’t agree with everything in the movies, you’re going to have a good laugh.”

“Michael Moore. The New Movie. Coming Soon,” it said on screen after his brief message to the audience last night. The full promo was also posted on YouTube and is available below.
