So I’ve finally upgraded from a 4 year old 1G iPod nano to the cheapest possible iPod Touch. I’m about to head to Europe for 8 weeks, so I figured aimless Euro-wandering begged for more than 142 songs. Anyway, the purchase has led me down my annual path of seeking out my song of the summer (see last year’s search for further information). The eventual winner for me personally is often the actual “song of the summer,” ala 2007’s “Umbrella” or 2003’s “Crazy in Love”.. but this year mainstream land has failed me over and over and over (ie: Green Day, Eminem, Black Eyed Peas).
So at this point I feel like the race for the song that will likely get the most repeat listens over the European leg of my hobo tour (and probably the best track of 2009) is down to two: Phoenix’s “1901” and Grizzly Bear’s “Two Weeks.” Both are seemless and catchy… with “Two Weeks” more pretty and retro, and “1901” more crank it and dance. And both have what incredibly hypnotic intros that make you want to reset the song over and over (a key to my songs of summer).
But I’m severely open to suggestion before I head yonder, which is pretty much the point of this blog entry (aka leave comments).
