There’s a lot to enjoy about RJ Cutler’s documentary The September Issue, which screened at SILVERDOCS on Friday night. One great aspect of the film, is its selection of songs. I settled in to watch the film, sitting next to The Horseboy director Michel Scott, and was thoroughly entertained the whole time. All of sudden, Michel and I heard a song in the film that made us look at each other and laugh. It was Cinematic Orchestra’s “To Build A Home.” It’s funny, because both Michel and I chose the song for our respective documentaries (mine being Trinidad). Apparently, the song is beloved these days, and getting extra mileage now that it’s featured in a Chivas TV ad. When I first heard the song after buying the album, I thought “what a cinematic tune.” Little did I know.
