Sitting in the audience for a change

I spent the better part of Wednesday in Philadelphia for the On Demand Summit, a conference where major players in the VOD market come together to discuss the state of affairs in the business. I’m still digesting a lot of the information, but what was especially unique for me was the experience of spending all day attending panels. I can’t remember the last time I just sat in session-after-session, without a screening or meeting or party to take me away. I even took notes! Sometimes, I think when you attend too many film festivals and conferences, you often lose sight of the ways in which a panel discussion can be enlightening. A lot of us get jaded on the ideas of panels and what can make them educational or useful. It was nice to sit in the audience for a change, trying to find a seat, trying to learn something. More of us attending festivals should try it sometime.
