Summer Cult Classics Slate Set

Summer Cult Classics Slate Set

At long last we finally have confirmation from Warner Bros. on the final piece of Enzian’s summer Cult Classics schedule. The second and last Tuesday night of the month from June through August will be as exciting and fun as ever. So come a little early, relax and have drink at the beautiful Eden Bar in Enzian’s courtyard, and get ready for some classic laughs and thrills at 9:30 PM. And remember–Cult Classics is all 35mm prints, all the time. Here’s the upcoming lineup:

June 9 – Carl Reiner’s THE JERK (1979) w/ Steve Martin (in his first starring role), Bernadette Peters, Bill Macy & Jackie Mason (!)
June 30 – Steven Spielberg’s JAWS (1975) w/ Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, tasty humans and a big mofo shark
July 14 – Monty Python’s LIFE OF BRIAN (1979) w/ John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones & Graham Chapman. A ridiculous and offensive religious parable that’s one of their funniest.
July 28 – Sam Peckinpah’s THE WILD BUNCH (1969) w/ William Holden, Robert Ryan, Ernest Borgnine & Warren Oates. Aging outlaws decide to retire after one last job in this classic American Western that has the distinction of being my first “R” rated movie–Yes!!
August 11 – Tim Burton’s ED WOOD (1994) w/ Johnny Depp, Sarah Jessica Parker, Martin Landau (an Oscar-winner as Bela Lugosi) & Bill Murray. Stunningly crafted, hilarious b&w biopic of a legendary (and infamous) Angora-loving director. “Transvestites! Get me transvestities!”
August 25 – Dennis Hopper’s EASY RIDER (1969) w/ Hopper, Peter Fonda & Jack Nicholson. Special 40th anniversary screening–newly struck 35mm print!

Be sure to mark your calendars and save the dates. We experimented recently with encore, late night weekend screenings of two other Cult Classics, FERRIS BUELLER…and ROBOCOP, but they weren’t very well-attended. So most likely the only screenings of these gems will be their scheduled Tuesday nights at 9:30.

So far the only thing booked for Fall is a Halloween week showing of William Friedkin’s THE EXORCIST on 10/27 (had to get that one in early to guarantee print availability). Watch the Enzian website for a Cult Classics poll in the coming weeks so you can put in your two cents and help us pick some titles for September through December. We encourage your participation and appreciate the assistance.
