That “Darn” June Slam Winner

That "Darn" June Slam Winner

A few people in Central Florida on Sunday afternoon actually decided not to go to THE HANGOVER or UP or start partying in anticipation of the NBA Finals Game 5, instead choosing to join their fellow local filmmaking community for FilmSlam # 6 of 2009. Good for them! As always, the Audience Award winner of this monthly Florida shorts event gets an automatic bye (time permitting) into December’s Brouhaha Film & Video showcase, which in turn feeds a “Best of” program into the Florida sidebar of next year’s 19th annual Florida Film Festival (April 9 – 18, 2010). 2nd and 3rd Place get some extra kudos and publicity, and should be proud of themselves as well.

June’s 1st Place winner went to Kris Wood’s THE DARNDEST THINGS, a film from Sarasota in which a father aims to keep his sanity while preserving his son’s innocence. 2nd Place runner-up was the video store romance, IT WAS NICE TO MEET YOU, written by David Sigurani and directed by Cristopher Mertens of Orlando. And 3rd Place went to Orlando’s Night of the Nightwolf’s SKATE OR DIE: LIVING WITH SODS, a skateboarder mockumentary.

Congratulations to all the filmmakers. Be sure to get your submissions in by the end of the month and circle the calendar for July’s Slam event on the 12th, 1:00 PM on the second Sunday of the month. Ah, tradition!
