The Clock Ticks

Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker, an acclaimed war film about tension on a bomb squad, opens June 26. The critics love it and festival audiences love it. Summit acquired it, during the Toronto Film Festival in September. Will it work, when it opens in theaters? Will audiences be able to see the film as an action/thriller, instead of an Iraq war film? The argument has been made: “it’s the first film set in the war, and not just about the war.” To this day, there has never been a film about the modern war, that has worked as a commercial success. Will this film change that? The clock ticks.
