I watched three seasons of the original Melrose Place quite religiously, and perhaps I was blinded by my youthful ignorance at the time, but I don’t remember it ever seeming as bad as the 4-minute trailer for its successor suggests. Or at least it was fun-bad. Frankly, the acting and dialogue of the new MP remind me of middle-range Canadian television, which is not at all a complement, or suggestive of anything fun. Not one character seems appealing, nor do their uninspired moral dilemmas (should Lauren take up prostitution to get money for medical school!?!). And if the many rumors are true that it is back-from-the-dead Sydney – the obvious bright spot – dead in the pool and the first season is some sort of “who killed Sydney” murder mystery… I can’t say that’s enticing me further.
