After more than a year of anticipation, Magnolia finally releases Mark Hartley’s documentary, Not Quite Hollywood, in New York and L.A. this weekend. The film is a love letter to the era of Australian exploitation cinema, a wonderfully in-your-face genre of filmmaking that many of us Alamo Drafthouse regulars know all about (Stunt Rock!). I’ve been a fan of Australian cinema for years, and there are certainly different forms it has taken. In collaboration with Film Movement, we just launched Rolf de Heer’s terrific thriller, Alexandra’s Project, on the iTunes Movie Store. It’s a classic arthouse thriller, not quite Not Quite Hollywood. Here’s the trailer:
