Sundance's "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men" Chats Up U.S. Distribution

John Krasinski’s Sundance 2009 directorial debut, “Brief Interviews with Hideous Men,” has been picked up by IFC Films. Arianna Bocco, VP of acquisitions & co-production negotiated the deal for IFC Films with CAA for the film, which stars Krasinski and based on the book by David Foster Wallace. “Men” will be released through IFC In Theaters on September 25th, the company’s day-and-date platform which releases film theatrically and on video on demand at the same time.

“Brief Interviews with Hideous Men” revolves around Sara Quinn (Julianned Nicholson, “Flannel Pajamas”), a graduate anthropology student at a prestigious East Coast university who is recently dumped by her boyfriend for no apparent reason. She embarks on a task to alleviate both her broken heart and academic challenges with a research project involving interviews with a series of men. Along the way, she discovers surprising answers from her subjects and gains insight to herself she had not anticipated.

Along with Krasinski playing one of the male subjects, other cast includes: Will Arnett (Arrested Development), Dominic Cooper (The History Boys), Bobby Cannavale (The Station Agent), Timothy Hutton (Ordinary People), Christopher Meloni (Law and Order), Max Minghella (Syriana), Ben Shenkmen (Angels in America) and others. The film was produced by Eva Kolodner, Yael Melamede, John Krasinski, James Suskin and executive produced by Kevin Connors.

The film will also go through IFC Entertainment’s deal with Blockbuster, which enables IFC Films to reach the retailer’s audience for its titles through its stores, by mail subscription services and digital downloading services at Blockbuster.com.
