Tarantino and Judge Bring It To Austin

Within just a few days of each other, two of Austin’s favorite modern filmmakers will host local premieres for their latest features. Both events are co-hosted by a few organizations, but the Austin Film Society (of which I’m a proud – if often absent – board member) will be doing the dirty work. First up, is the Austin premiere of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, on August 15. The Alamo Drafthouse has become the Church of Tarantino over the years, so it makes sense that this special screening will be held on the property. Space is extremely limited, so expect an instant sell-out (tickets go on-sale Wednesday), and your ticket gets you a 3-course dinner at the theater. I saw the Cannes cut, and look forward to seeing the theatrical cut, but I’m confident this will be a stellar evening.

Only a few short days later, on August 18, Mike Judge and the Austin Film Society will host the local premiere of his latest film, Extract. Judge, who is a longtime Austin local, will be in attendance along with the film’s star Jason Bateman. This screening will occur at the spacious Paramount Theater, but don’t count on tickets being available at the last minute. This is Judge’s third live-action feature, and some say it’s the proper follow-up to his cult hit Office Space. I haven’t seen this film yet, so color me extra green for not being in Austin next month. When it rains, it pours, and Austin needs the rain.
