Zurich Film Festival to Honor Polanski

Oscar winner Roman Polanski will be given the Golden Eye Award for life achievement at the Zurich Film Festival. The Zurich Film Festival will also present a special Roman Polanski retrospective to celebrate his receipt of the award on September 27th and will screen numerous films from his illustrious career, such as his cinema debut Knife in the Water and classics like the thriller Chinatown and the Holocaust drama The Pianist, for which he received the Oscar for Best Director. The films will be shown in Zurich’s Corso Cinema.

Chinese hackers crash Australian festival website

Chinese hackers crashed the website of Australia’s biggest film festival, organisers saidon Saturday, escalating tensions over a visit here by the exiled leader of the Uighur minority. AFP reports.

In “Cold Souls,” opening Friday in limited release, the actor Paul Giamatti plays an actor named… Paul Giamatti. The deadpan comedy is the feature debut for 34-year-old French-born writer-director Sophie Barthes, who currently lives in New York City. The idea for the film came to her, quite literally, in a dream. Mark Olsen reports.
