Swinton and Guadagnino Want To Remake “Auntie Mame”!

Swinton and Guadagnino Want To Remake "Auntie Mame"!

Certainly the most enjoyable news to come out of Venice so far, Variety is reporting that while promoting their collaboration “I Am Love” – which is getting some fantastic reviews on the Lido – Tilda Swinton and Luca Guadagnino have “high hopes” for Hollywood remake of 1958 Warner Bros. hit “Auntie Mame”!

“Luca and I have known each other for a very long time and we have a very compatible vision,” Swinton told Variety. “We both like the idea of a pure cinema born out of a classical history of cinema; but truly modern.” Guadagnino said he and Swinton aspire to remake “Auntie Mame” as a “rock-n-roll, super funny, super mainstream movie… “This is an SOS for Warner Bros. to give us the rights for this remake, which only Tilda could do justice to.” They would set their “Mame,” which is about a boy growing up as ward of his dead father’s eccentric sister, in the present-day.

Imagine the fabulousness of Swinton in this role, utterly “Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death. You got to live, live, live!”

Until then, we have “I Am Love” to be excited about. The film – which Swinton learned Russian-accented Italian for – is quickly becoming one of my most anticipated films of TIFF.
