CMJ Rocks NYC with 2009 Film Lineup

The CMJ Music Festival, now in its 29th year, has delved into the world of film, and is offering a robust lineup of music docs and feature films and docs that have played in premiere film fests around the world. The festival runs from October 20-24, 2009, and will feature opening night film “The Perfect Age of Rock ‘n’ Roll” and closing night film “The Messenger.” Festival passes, which permit entry to the films can be purchased on the CMJ site here.

Joining the opening and closing night films in the main slate will be George Clooney-starrer “The Men Who Stare at Goats” and Milla Jovovich’s “The Fourth Kind.” A robust lineup of films that have premiered at LAFF and other festivals is also featured in the program. Additional films include: “My Movie Girl,” “Dear Lemon Lima,” “The Invisible Life of Thomas Lynch,” “Pardon Us for Living But The Graveyard is Full,” “Kid Creole and The Coconuts,” “Speaking in Code,” “D-Tour,” “Girls on the Wall,” “The Ballot or the Bullet,” “Footsteps in Africa: A Nomadic Journey,” “Average Community,” “Mellodrama,” “Searching for Elliott Smith,” and the controversy-embroiled “Bananas!*”

In a statement, Alex Steyermark, CMJ Film Festival artistic director commented on the lineup: “We are so excited to offer such a strong film line up to the CMJ community as well as film devotees in the NYC metropolitan area. Submissions were at an all-time high, and we’ll be presenting almost twice as many films as in previous years. We’ve also added a new program this, the “Music Doc Showcase” at Norwood which is sure to become a signature event of the festival.”
