"Empire" Tops at Hawaii Fest

The 29th annual Hawaii International Film Festival has announced the winners of its 2009 edition. Awards and recipients are as follows:

The Haleukulani Golden Orchid Award for Narrative Feature was awarded to “Empire of Silver,” directed by Yao Shuhua.

The Haleukulani Golden Orchid Award for Documentary feature was presented to “Petition,” directed by Zhao Liang.

The Netpac Award, which promotes Asian cinema by emerging directors, was awarded to “Castaway on the Moon,” directed by Hey-jun Lee.

The Puma Emerging Filmmaker Award was presented to “Children of Invention,” directed by Tze Chun.

The Video-on-Demand Vieweres Choice Award Powered by Ocean Time Warner Cable went to “Ajumma! Are You Krazy?” directed by Brent Anbe.

The festival is underway until October 24.
