Five New Albums Worth Your Dime

Five New Albums Worth Your Dime

1. Miike Snow, Miike Snow
(Yet another Swedish band that is earning cred while it rocks the clubs, stateside. Whatever they’re drinking in Sweden, it’s creating more and more smart dance-pop.)

2. Jamie T, Kings and Queens
(On the eve of his 24th birthday, Jamie T is an English pop prodigy with a talent for wide open hooks and street-friendly anthems.)

3. Richard Hawley, Truelove’s Gutter
(Hawley, formerly of Pulp, continues his solo crooning career with another loungey nighttime soundtrack. The arrangements are heavenly and his voice soars, for some nostalgia-inducing cocktail songs.)

4. Atlas Sound, Logos
(A solo side project from Deerhunter leader Bradford Cox, ambient noises and layered melodies build an even better case that he’s an emerging – and only 27 year-old – talent to keep an eye on.)

5. Various Artists, The Twilight Saga: New Moon
(An indie rock orgy, in support of the anticipated sequel film, combines bands both buzzy – Grizzly Bear, Muse – and deserving of more buzz – Editors, Sea Wolf. It’s not just a hipster cash-in, either. There’s even some amazingly odd collaborations, like UK pop/rockers The Magic Numbers teaming up with African worldbeat duo Amadou & Mariam. All in, it’s a great album that may have little to do with vampires but everything to do with good modern rock.)
