Two weeks before its October 28 release, Michael Jackson’s This Is It now ranks at number 23 on MovieTickets.com’s list of the top-25 advance ticket sellers of all time. It moves ahead of Quantum of Solace and The Departed. So far MovieTickets.com is reporting 603 sold-out shows during the movie’s planned two-week run.
A MovieTickets poll of moviegoers indicates, not surprisingly, that 68% are drawn to see Where the Wild Things Are because they like the children’s book.
And it looks like Law Abiding Citizen, starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler, is tracking well for a strong opening. Here’s the LAT interview with director F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job). And during a terrific show on KCRW-FM’s To the Point about how Hollywood is dealing with the Internet, the Film Department CEO Mark Gill said that the movie, which cost $50 million, would have been budgeted at twice that much at a major studio. Definitely listen to this podcast of the show, which features a heavyweight group: the LAT’s Patrick Goldstein, Forrester Research media and technology analyst James McQuivey, and Jordan Levin, co-founder of Generate.
Summit Entertainment isn’t wasting any time building up interest in the already hot-as-flapjacks sequel to Twilight, New Moon. The Chris Weitz-directed vampire/werewolf flick starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart doesn’t open until November 20. But to fan the flames with the rabid Stephenie Meyer fan base, Summit is offering free music downloads with online movie ticket purchases for New Moon. With every ticket purchase on Fandango and MovieTickets.com, advance ticket buyers will get an exclusive remix of the Anya Marina song “Satellite Heart” (via an emailed coupon code for iTunes) from the film’s soundtrack, which goes into release on October 16. They have to buy their tickets by December 7. Watch the advance ticket sales on this movie go through the roof.
