Movie Site: Jinni

I am sitting at my laptop streaming Julie Taymor’s Across the Universe–a movie with a fantastic Beatles soundtrack sung by attractive actors including yummy leading man Jim Sturgess–for free. I’m beavering away here, enjoying the comments on Gawker’s post asking for $1000 reward for a new photo of Nikki Finke, and feeling remarkably unmotivated to do any serious blogging.

I found a new movie site, called jinni, which has been described as “last.fm for movies,” signed up, and fed in the search terms “British period romance,” which yielded photos for various movies I could click on, from the Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice and Atonement to The Illusionist and Shakespeare in Love. I took some personality quizzes (always fun) and clicked on “connect to Netflix,” and then “available for free streaming,” and got a different list, including Room with a View, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Persuasion, Vanity Fair and The Other Boleyn Girl. I clicked on Across the Universe, but first had to upload the application Microsoft Silverlight, no sweat. Then I was watching Across the Universe on Netflix, with the occasional halt with the admonition, “your internet connection has slowed. We are adjusting playback to avoid further commercial interruption. ”

Easy peasy. And no ads!
