Oz, ACL, Devil: A big weekend for streaming

Sometimes the stars align, and that’s what is happening this weekend with regard to online streaming. Hitting scores of people that normally don’t use the services, there are a few events happening this weekend that will undoubtedly introduce streaming/VOD options to new eyes. Here they are:

In honor of its 70th anniversary, and a new Blu-ray disc, The Wizard of Oz is available for free on Netflix’s Watch Instantly streaming service until Sunday morning. It’s available too everyone, and not just Netflix subsribers. That means, you can watch the classic film on a series of devices, at no charge. Here’s the custom page.

For this year’s Austin City Limits Music Festival (which I surely miss now), the folks at Hulu are streaming much of the event live on their site all weekend. I’ve been catching up here and there, and the sound/video is impressive. Almost makes it okay not to be there this year (especially since it’s raining and the lineup is a little spotty). Check out the live feed.

I already mentioned that Ti West’s The House of the Devil is currently available to rent off Amazon VOD. But, some other folks are joining that chorus, including AICN’s Harry Knowles. Click here to check out his love for the film, as well as a direct link to where you can get it online. If I’m not mistaken, this review marks a first for AICN: a first-run review of a film debuting on Amazon VOD before theaters.
