Wal-Mart Dives Deeper Into Home Theaters

Wal-Mart Dives Deeper Into Home Theaters

I believe that it’s always important to follow business developments at Wal-Mart, because for better or worse, that can influence consumer behavior in a big way nationwide. A few weeks ago, there was an announcement that Wal-Mart would cut back on DVD sales displays. And, now, it appears they will dive deeper into selling products for the complete home entertainment experience. In other words, why focus on selling DVDs when you can sell and install the high-end (read: much more expensive) electronics that consumers love for their increasingly multi-platform experience. TWICE is reporting about Wal-Mart’s new home installation program, which will make it even easier for Middle America to embrace the world of broadband, VOD, and staying home:

The in-home visits will be made by NEW’s nationwide network of about 11,000 certified and insured installers. Basic TV services include a pre-installation consultation, TV placement, hook-ups to two A/V components, remote control configuration, packaging clean-up, and a follow-up visit and tutorial.

Walmart’s premium TV service, for $339, also provides wall mounting, concealed in-wall wiring and two additional A/V component hook-ups.

PC services range from $129 to $199 and include software installation, peripheral hook-ups, data transfer, hard-drive defragmentation and tutorials.
