Watch 'House of the Devil' at Your House

Ti West’s The House of the Devil is easily one of the best American horror films of the year. You can refresh your memory with my thoughts from the Tribeca premiere in April. I also interviewed Ti at the Apple Store in SoHo, on the same day. (You can get the podcast audio version on iTunes) The film recently screened at Fantastic Fest, where it impressed the hell out of all who witnessed Ti’s precision for scares. I’ve known Ti for years (since premiering his first film, The Roost, at SXSW a while back) and I’m really happy to see this film get an enthusiastic response as well as an enthusiastic release from Magnolia.

In the grand tradition of many Magnolia releases, The House of the Devil is currently available on Cable VOD nationwide, even though it opens in limited theaters starting October 30. This is great news in my opinion, because there’s a late-night-cable quality to what is so scary about the film. As the title suggests, this is a horror film about a frightening house, so watching it at home late at night, may be the best method. Remember those movies that disturbed you awake on a sleepover? The House of the Devil is that, plus so much more. If you don’t have cable, you can still watch it at home, via Amazon VOD. It’s available for rental on Amazon, which means you can watch it through a Roku box, a TiVo player, or a Sony BRAVIA television. Go there now, and check it out.
