"Precious" Cracks Overall Top Ten On Monday

On only 18 screens, “Precious: Based on the novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” managed to crack the overall box office top ten for Monday’s numbers, grossing $232,636. Off 60% from Sunday, it suffered the lowest drop off any reporting film in the top 20 and managed to out-gross the likes of Lionsgate sibling “Saw VI,” as well as “Amelia,” “Astro Boy,” “Zombieland” and “The Stepfather,” all of which we playing on 50 to 150 times the screens.

“Precious”‘s total stands at $2,105,094, and could top $3 million before it expands on Friday. That would make for an unbelievable weekly per-theater-average of $167,000.
