Things I Learned on the Weekend Party Circuit

Things I Learned on the Weekend Party Circuit

1. There’s girl-on-girl snogging between Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning as bisexual rock stars in The Runaways. That’s why it’s R-rated.

2. Spider-Man 4 is in turmoil. Laura Ziskin is not actively producing the fourth Spider-Man installment (tentatively titled Spider-M4n), and Todd Black (The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, Knowing) has his hands full as the many cooks at Sony and Marvel try to finalize the shooting script. This time, director Sam Raimi wants to get his way on story and villains; last time around he thought he gave in too much to studio demands on action figures and the like, to the film’s detriment. Sony has ordered a holiday hiatus before the movie starts shooting in February or March, but insists nothing is awry. Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst are slated to return. David Lindsay-Abaire, Gary Ross and James Vanderbilt have contributed drafts. Sony has set a May 5, 2011 release.

3. Curtis Hanson is capable of making a Jerry Bruckheimer VFX movie. He’s prepping Gemini Man, a story about an older hit man ready to leave the game who has to hold off an attack by his younger clone, written by David Benioff, Jonathan Hensleigh and Darren Lemke. An older actor will star opposite his younger FX-enhanced self. Angry Films’ Don Murphy, who developed the project, will also produce. Whatever happened to Ari Folman’s movie about an older actress who retires and watches her younger CG self continue on with her career?

4. Legal eagle Russell Wetanson of Popsquire used to do video interviews for now-defunct iKlipz, whose Seth Nagel has become a talent manager.

5. There’s strong advance buzz on Sundance title Blue Valentine, which is repped by WME’s indie division, led by Graham Taylor. Derek Cianfrance’s film stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams as a married couple.

6. Disney chief Rich Ross’s Wizards of Waverly Place teen star David Henrie turned up at Kevin Iwashina’s packed party on Saturday, posing for excited tween guests.
