Berlinale Announces Generation, Two Other Sections of 2010 Lineup

The programmers of the 2010 Berlinale have announced the lineups from three programs. Of the festival’s trailblazing children’s program, Generation, section director Maryanne Redpath commented, “There’s not just one experience of childhood or adolescence and there are many ways to make a film about it.” The Generation 14plus program will open with the off-Bollywood Indian film, “Road, Movie” by Dev Benegal. The Generation Kplus program will open for the first time with a documentary, Pedro González-Rubio’s “Alamar.” A special program of food-related films, Culinary Cinema, will debut at the 2010 festival. Berlinale programmer Dieter Kosslick commented on the program, “The concept for the series has proven successful. We show films that whet our audiences’ appetites and then we cook for them. Though we also show films that ruin their appetites, for instance, films that open their eyes to the catastrophic global food situation.” The lineup features a new film from 2009 Berlinale jury head Tilda Swinton, “Io Sono L’Amore” (“I Am Love”). The festival’s Deutsches Kino program, which showcases the best of German cinema, provides a glimpse of the future of German filmmaking. This year, 6 of the 14 films are directed by women.
