Mo’Nique did well. She trembled with emotion as she accepted her supporting actress award, saying: “Thank you, God, for this amazing ride that you’re allowing me to go on. …I am in the midst of my dream…To Gabby, sister, I am in awe of you. Thank you for letting me play with you… I celebrate this award with all the Preciouses, with all the Marys. I celebrate this award with every person that’s ever been touched. It’s now time to tell, and it’s OK.”
As she thanked him, director Lee Daniels lost it; he wears his emotions on his sleeve.
The question is how much Mo’Nique’s continued wins makes it more inevitable not only that she will win the Oscar–that’s a pretty sure thing–but that Precious will also grab Oscar nominations for Daniels, writer Geoffrey Fletcher, Gabourey Sidibe and best picture.
BACKSTAGE UPDATE: If folks don’t deal with the wounds of abuse, she said backstage, it festers inside.
But everyone has to handle their own issues in their own way. “So often times we live a lifetime with those demons not really dealing with it,” she said. “So we continue to have a damaged life, and it is time to stop that. It is time for us to heal and be survivors and no longer be victims… “I don’t know to say me winning has a great importance on what the message is. I think the message is far more important than anything…if that one life was changed, we won. So that message is more important than anything.”
“Hey baby,” or “hey sweetie,” she says to each journalist asking her a question. “Thank you baby,” she says at the end of each question. She said throwing the little retarded girl and calling her an animal was the hardest thing she had to do during filming, and required a group hug afterward.
