Sundance Exclusive Video: Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work

After the dark places that Darfur documentary The Devil Came on Horseback took filmmakers Ricki Stern and Anne Sundberg, they decided to lighten things up on their next movie. “We wanted to do something on women and comedy,” says Stern. “It was still for the most part an all-boys club. Joan was a window into that.”

For Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work they covered 14 months in the life of the 75-year-old comic, following Rivers to London, where she put on a play about her life that may or may not eventually make it to Broadway. (IndieWIRE interviews the two filmmakers in this in-depth pre-Sundance feature.) Submarine’s Josh Braun is repping the film as it makes its Sundance world premiere: all rights are available.
